Pesky Gremlins Comic 667 – Pretty Lame

Pretty Lame

Despite Snafu’s misgivings, Slim, the world’s most famous glow-in-the-dark plastic skeleton, arrives to tell his annual Halloween tale.

Since Slim has arrived and in keeping with the Halloween spirit, the web page bonus for the month of October will feature monsters.  First up is this semi-finished image from the 2018 Werewolf story.

Two years ago, when this was done, I still did everything but coloring the strip in a traditional pen and ink manner. This image was prior to Photoshop level adjustments and filtering. If you look closely, you can still see the pencil work under the ink. The ink was also a somewhat uneven. I could have fixed that with another coat of ink, but it was much easier to just Photoshop it.

I very much enjoy doing these dark and spooky looking drawing but they are terribly time consuming.

  1. Everyone thinks they can write something better, until they actually try to.

I can see why such an image would take a long time to do, but if you enjoy the process, it doesn’t really matter.

    1. What’s really bothering Snafu is the fact that Slim gets the spotlight for the entire month of October.

I do enjoy the process of drawing one of those elaborate high contrast cartoons, but I don’t like to miss posting deadlines because I spent too long on just one frame. 🙂

  2. No bones about it (maybe in this case there are)!

    1. There are no actual bones about it. Slim is made entirely of plastic!

  3. Aw, Snafu! Just settle down and enjoy the ride!

    1. Snafu always starts Octobers like this. But he settles down once Slim starts his story.
