Pesky Gremlins Comic 655 – Finding Her Voice

Finding Her Voice

Fully charged and exercising the new programming, Siri tries to strike up a conversation with Elmo.  Could Lucas’ designs actually work?

The web page bonus images are, by design, blasts from the past.  With that in mind, today’s bonus image is kind of a double dose of that.  First, it is from an image from one of the older Pesky Gremlins comics (which I could have done a much better job). Second it is one of the first “home computers”.   Does anyone recognize it?

  1. Siri has been lobotomized!

An old IBM. computer Is it the IBM Jr. with the chicklet keyboard?

    1. With Lucas’ hacks, Siri is currently an unknown.

Yes! that is the not so illustrious IBM PC Jr. I tried to draw the Chiclet keyboard too, but you can’t really see it.

      1. I think you can easily see it’s a non-standard keyboard. It was so strange that IBM made such a thing when they basically created the standard keyboard layout.

  2. You gotta watch those updates!

    1. Its usually the Microsoft updates that bite me, but I have had a few odd things show up in Apple updates, too.

  3. Hehehe! Yeah, those updates can be bizarre! Haha!

Don’t remember the name, but it does look like my first ‘puter.

    1. It is amazing how much trust people place in those updates.

Those older computers all seem to have that same bland beige non-color back then. Kind of hard to distinguish one from another.

  4. I always keep automatic updates to off; I like to feel like I have a little bit of control!

That looks a lot like the computer we had as a kid, but I honestly have no idea what kind it was!

    1. I keep auto-updates off, too. But that is due to many bad experiences with updates from you-know-who that blow up my PC.

I never had an IBM PC Jr. I just remember them as being rather odd coming from the very serious IBM.
