Dark and Stormy Night
Slim, the plastic glow-in-the-dark skeleton, starts his story off with one of the most hackneyed beginnings in literature. The phrase “It was a dark and stormy night” was penned in 1830 by Edward Bulwer-Lytton and has been scoffed, scorned, and ridiculed ever since. Having that phase show up here in “Pesky Gremlins” cannot help Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s besmerched reputation.
For those that missed Slim’s introduction last year, here is a link that will take you to the first Slim comic: http://www.peskygremlins.com/comic/pesky-gremlins-comic-99-skeleton-attic/

It was Snoopy’s favorite opener for his novels.

Yes! I think many of us first read those words as Snoopy typed them on his typewriter in Peanuts.

My kind of night!

They make great settings and backgrounds. I have really enjoyed doing the clouds and lightning.

Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary, I chanced to come upon a gremlin green twisting bolts and looking mean. … toasting marshmallows over a campfire… this is getting good.

Hey, you’re quoting Poe. Which, coincidentally, was also under consideration for the Halloween story. But, Terror at 20,000 feet already had a gremlin in it…

I would take “It was a dark and stormy night” over “Once upon a time” any time.
